Arsenal are only one game into the Premier League season and yet people are already beginning to question Arsene Wenger and the strength of the squad as a whole.
The 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa has sparked many Arsenal fans to question the manager. This was evident in the high pressure atmosphere created during their opening game. There were many home fans booing the Arsenal side and Wenger off the pitch, meanwhile fans held up signs urging the manager and the board to spend their money on new signings.
Arsenal have their captain (Thomas Vermaelen) and vice captain (Mikel Arteta) out injured, as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Jack Wilshere is also still trying to regain his fitness.
They have let many players go such as Sebastian Squillaci and Andrei Arshavin. Despite all these players being out, Arsenal have only signed one player, that being Yaya Sanogo.
All of this has led many Arsenal fans to question Wenger, and other's to write off the club's title chances, before the season really got going. The club are used to slow starts but they haven't lost their first game of the season for a very long time.
If Arsenal can secure their place in the Champions League, after their 3-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the first-leg of the play-off, they will earn valuable money for doing so. If they can bring in a few new players before the transfer deadline, then they could still enjoy a very good season. As they have shown in the past, Arsenal should not be written off.
