Manchester United are yet to make a big signing throughout this transfer window, but that could change with the signing of German international Mesut Ozil.
The Turkish born attacking midfielder may be United’s first major signing this window, after missing out on Thiago Alcatara and Cristiano Ronaldo, David Moyes will be determined to this deal happen.
Ozil is an assist machine, providing 63 in 157 games, also contributing with 27 goals. This is exactly what united need, some creativity in the midfield and someone to support Robin van Persie, who could spend most of his time up-front on his own.
Since moving to Madrid from Werder Bremen in 2010, Ozil has been a key component in the Madrid team, but with Madrid’s signing of Isco, Ozil may not be needed.
Moyes obviously feels he needs a playmaker in midfield, also expressing an interest in Cesc Fabregas of Barcelona, and Ozil’s team-mate Luka Modric. With Kagawa their only attacking midfielder, and Rooney preferring to play as a striker, this is a good move from Moyes.
People have given Moyes and United a lot of stick about their lack of transfer activity, but I believe they have been careful, they only really need a playmaker, and have held off for the right one, not just offering silly money for one that won’t do the job.
I believe the club have been smart in this window, not wasting money on players they don’t need, David Moyes, I commend you.
