Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches, according to the Romanian club's manager, Laurentiu Reghecampf, reports talkSPORT.

The 23-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move to north London for much of the summer, and now looks set to finally complete a dream switch to the Premier League.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has been particularly active during the transfer window, making no less than four signings, after capturing the signatures of Paulinho, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, and Etiene Capoue.

Chiriches arrival at White Hart Lane would fill the void left by William Gallas and Steven Caulker, with the Frenchman handed a free transfer prior to Caulker's £8million sale to Cardiff City earlier this month.

Tottenham are yet to confirm the deal, but Steaua Bucharest's manager has given the clearest indication yet that an announcement is imminent with transfer deadline day just seven days away.

"The two clubs have agreed to transfer him. I'm very happy for him," Reghecampf confirmed. "I can not say the amount for which [he was] transferred, but it is very high.

"It will be the most expensive transfer in the history of Steaua. The owner says that all there is left to do is sign some documents."

With Steaua Bucharest in Champions League action in the second leg of their play-off against Legia Warsaw tomorrow night, Chiriches could turn out for the club for the final time before completing his move to Tottenham.

"We hope he will help us Tuesday night if he can," Reghecampf added.
