McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh, believes that Kimi Raikkonen is looking for a way to move away from Lotus next year, but he feels that the Iceman may not be successful in his search.

With Raikkonen's switch to Red Bull, in place of the retiring Mark Webber, seeming unlikely day by day; his future is under intense scrutiny.

Talking about Raikkonen, Whitmarsh revealed that they had contacted him regarding their vacant seat last year, which ultimately went to Sergio Perez. He however, clarified that the Team has not approached him for next year.

Speaking to the Formula One Website, Whitmarsh said: "I probably shouldn't be, but I'm completely open - last year we had talks with him, but for various reasons it didn't happen. This year we've had no talks - yet.

"Obviously Kimi is determined to go somewhere else and I sense that he will not succeed in that goal, so let's see how he gets on there."

Other possible options for Raikkonen, besides Red Bull, are Ferrari and Mclaren.

But a move back to either of his former teams seems unlikely for Raikkonen, for varied reasons.

Whitmarsh insists that the Team would like to reward their drivers' for the commitment they have shown towards them, in spite of a very poor season. This effectively rules out McLaren for Raikkonen next year.

"Let's just say both drivers have done a good job here and deserve a better McLaren next year and that's what we aim to give them," Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh said, hinting that Jenson button and Sergio Perez would both be retained for next season.

Whitmarsh added: "Kimi has always been great and I am a big fan of him. There is a lot of speculation out there at the moment, so let's see what happens."
