Manchester United star Robin Van Persie has been the best Premier League striker for the past two seasons - and he will hope that rich vein of form in front of goal continues after the Dutchman designed his own football boots.

The United forward has designed his own pair of red adidas F50 football boots, and showed off the finished product on his official Twitter account before wearing them against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Netherlands international failed to find the net against Jose Mourinho's side in the 0-0 draw, but that wasn't for the lack of technology in his custom boots.

According to boot maker adidas, the Van Persie edition F50s include Sprintweb and Sprintframe stability technology.

The latter provides a thin upper layer that improves first touch while keeping the overall weight of the boot down while the former improves balance when twisting and turning at high speeds.

And built-in miCoach technology allows United staff to track Van Persie's sprinting, distance run and acceleration speed.

On his Twitter account, Van Persie said: "Really happy with my new @adidasfootball boots. Designed them myself on miadidas."

The Dutchman has won back-to-back Premier League Golden Boot awards - with Arsenal and then Manchester United - and hit 26 goals for the league champions last term.

He'll be hoping that form continues with his new boots.
