Tottenham are eyeing up a £26 million move for Valencia midfielder, Ever Banega.

According to the Daily Star, Spurs are looking to reinvest some of the £86 million generated from the soon-to-be-confirmed sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, and Banega is top of Andre Villas-Boas' transfer wish-list.

The 25-year-old Argentine midfielder - who has been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks - is likely to cost Spurs around £26 million, with the White Hart Lane outfit looking to activate Banega's release clause and pip their north London rivals to the player's signature.

Manchester United are also known admirers, with David Moyes reportedly considering Banega as an alternative to Marouane Fellaini, should a move for the Everton midfielder fail to come to fruition.

Moyes tried to sign the Valencia captain during his time in charge at Goodison Park, only for the move to fall through in its final stages with the La Liga giants having pulled the plug on the switch.

Speaking at the time, Moyes said: "He has very good ability and is a little bit similar to Mikel Arteta in lots of ways in that he can retain the ball and pass it."
