As part of GiveMeSport's recruitment drive, with the next generation of sports publisher looking to increase its sports desk by up to 50 per cent, GMS are delighted to announce that one of the vacancies has been filled by one of our own - GMS Academy member, Michael Panter.

With over 35,000 people having registered an interest in joining the Academy and with 2,500 contributors regularly submitting content, GiveMeSport has a plethora of aspiring sports journalists all looking to make a name for themselves in the sports journalism industry.

And, having successfully come through the ranks and climbed the Academy ladder, Panter has joined our team of professional journalists at our head offices in central London on a full-time basis.

Speaking after landing his first sports journalism role, Panter said: "As an aspiring sports journalist fresh from finishing university, I was worried that employers wouldn't place their faith in me, as many places I'd applied for declined due to me having a lack of professional experience.

"With GMS I was given the opportunity to show what I could do. Rather than accept or reject me based on what was on a piece of paper, they offered me the chance to exhibit my skills, and placed the chance in my own hands."

Having worked his way up to Level 4 of 7, Panter applied for a two-week placement opportunity at GiveMeSport Towers, with the motivation being a chance to gain first-hand journalism experience in a professional working environment.

After impressing during his time with GMS, Panter was subsequently offered a permanent, full-time role - an offer he was delighted to accept.

"The placement gave me the ability to work with a professional team, all the while offering me a comfortable and pressure-free environment in which to create material.

"I would recommend it to any prospective sports journalist."

GMS Academy prides itself on giving aspiring sports journalists the opportunity to have their articles read by millions of fans all over the world.

And having attracted 18 millions visits for the month of July, with the website increasing 20 per cent month-on-month, is a global platform for contributors to utilise to their full advantage, enabling them to have their say on all the biggest sporting issues.

Panter added: "The GMS Academy was a brilliant way to not only regularly practise journalism in the area that I hope to specialise in, but also gave me the opportunity to formulate an online portfolio of work, which included an array of different pieces."

Having secured a full-time job at GiveMeSport HQ, Panter is grateful for the opportunity handed to him by GMS, and is full of praise for the Academy as a whole.

"The Academy is the perfect way to ensure you're constantly improving as a journalist or writer.

"Regardless of whether you're experienced or have no formal-training, if you work hard enough your material will be published for thousands to see. As a writer you can't ask for much more."
