Chelsea will launch a deadline day move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, reports the Daily Mail.

Exit rumours have been flooding the Bernabeu with all eyes on Arsenal's attempts to prise Mesut Ozil away from the La Liga giants.

The Gunners have reportedly launched a £42.5m bid for Ozil, which has been accepted.

The German international is thought to be surplus to requirements following an extravagant summer recruitment drive.

Real Madird are looking to recoup much of the £86m they paid for Gareth Bale and see selling players as the best way to do so.

It is now thought that his compatriot Khedira could follow him out of the exit door, with Chelsea favourites to land his signature.

Jose Mourinho is thought to be a keen admirer of Khedira after originally signing him from Stuttgart whilst at Real Madrid.

It is common knowledge that Mourinho's tactics work best with a quality defensive midfielder, which is something that Chelsea currently lack.

Mourinho's success in his first spell at Stamford Bridge was helped by the dominant and disciplined performances from Claude Makelele.

Khedira is now seen as the man who could fill the shoes in the famed 'Makelele role' in the new Mourinho era.
