Liverpool have made their best start to a Premier League season since 1994-95 with an impressive 1-0 victory over champions Manchester United.
The win proved to be the perfect occasion to mark the 100th anniversary of their legendary Scottish manager Bill Shankly's birth. It was also the 24th birthday of Daniel Sturridge, who yet again scored the match winner for the Reds.
Sturridge was signed by Liverpool from Chelsea in last season's January transfer window.
And he scored 11 goals in 16 matches for the Reds last season. He has continued his fine form from last season and scored the match winner in each of the three league matches.
The match against rivals Manchester United was the first big match for Liverpool this season.
Kolo Toure couldn't feature in the match but they didn't miss him. The match provided the pulsating start that the day deserved as Sturridge scored with a header in the fourth minute.
In the end, this goal proved to be the match winner. Liverpool deserved their single goal victory while United's performance lacked inspiration, purpose and threat and once again underlined the urgency for transfer business to be done in the closing hours of the transfer window.
Sturridge has made a brilliant start to the season. If he keeps on scoring goals, Liverpool will easily be able to achieve their target to play in the Champions League next season. Also, he could well be the Premier League Golden Boot winner this season.
Three wins, three cleansheets and three 1-0 wins. Also, in each of their matches, Sturridge has scored the match winner.
Liverpool have had a perfect start to their Premier League campaign. Will they make it to the top four this time and will Sturridge win the Golden Boot?
