Real Madrid legend Guti has admitted that Barcelona star Lionel Messi offers more than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The retired Spanish footballer believes that Messi is currently the world's best player and has suggested that, at the crucial times, the Argentine is more prolific than Ronaldo.

Messi has won four consecutive Ballons d'Or and has scored over 200 La Liga goals since entering the stage at the Nou Camp in the 2004/05 season.

And, on the impact of the Argentine star, Guti told Punto Pelota: "I can only repeat what I have already said before and that is that Messi is the best in the world at the moment. It pains me to admit it, but it's the simple truth."

However, Guti doesn't believe that Messi is on another level to his Portuguese rival, but would just pick the Argentine ahead of Ronaldo.

He continued by saying: "I am not saying that Messi is on another level than Cristiano, though. But he's more decisive at certain moments when the team really needs him. He can salvage a game by himself.

"They are arguably the two best players in the world, but when it comes to my personal preference I must admit that I like Messi more."

The pair will have to wait until October 27 to go head-to-head for the first time in this campaign as Barcelona will host Real Madrid at the Nou Camp.

The game will also see summer recruits Gareth Bale and Neymar take part in their first El Clasico.
