Daniel Sturridge could return to the field ahead of England's crunch-match against Ukraine on Tuesday, according to the Daily Express.
The Liverpool forward is struggling with a thigh problem following Liverpool's 1-0 win over arch-rivals Manchester United at the weekend and is definitely ruled out of this Friday's equally important qualifier against Moldova.
But England boss Roy Hodgson is hopeful of the in-form front-man returning to the fold on Tuesday evening in a game that England must win.
The former Chelsea striker has started the season in fine form after scoring four goals in as many matches in all competitions and looks to be fully focussed on the season ahead.
Sturridge returned to Anfield from England's training base at St George’s Park yesterday but is set to return on Sunday, when the squad fly out to Kiev, where the injury will be re-assessed.
Hodgson's men must win both their games to have a realistic chance of winning group H and qualifying for next year's World Cup in Brazil.
