Kaka has refuted claims that Jose Mourinho was the one to blame for his poor form at Real Madrid, according to

The Brazilian, who left Madrid to sign for former club AC Milan on deadline day, has stated that Mourinho played no part in the lack of personal success he enjoyed at the Bernabeu, and claimed that the Special One actually improved him.

Mourinho, who returned to Chelsea after leaving Madrid this summer, has been the target of derogatory statements by some quarters who claim it was his managing style that hampered Kaka's ability to play at the highest level.

"It wasn't Jose Mourinho's fault that I left Real Madrid. It wasn't because of him – he actually made me stronger," the 31-year-old explained.

"I looked to give my best for him in these years, making sure I was always at his disposal. Unfortunately I wasn't always fit and that didn’t help.

"It was a good personal experience for me in Madrid, less so professionally. But it was a spell which helped me to grow, I matured a lot."

The former Ballon d'Or winner, who was widely heralded as one of the best players in the world during his first stint at Milan, suffered a string of injuries whilst playing for los Blancos, and never really performed to the level that was expected of him when he signed for €68.5million in 2009.

Kaka was quick to add that he is relishing the return to AC Milan, and revealed in-part the reasons for his desire to leave the Spanish capital.

"I don't regret the years in the Real shirt but, seeing how things went, I did lose a little desire to play. The decision to leave was taken after speaking with Carlo Ancelotti. I didn't play with continuity, partly because of the injuries, partly because of the competition for places," he said.
