Manchester United will return for Anders Herrera and Leighton Baines in the January transfer window, according to the

The website cites that the Guardian's Manchester correspondent, Jamie Jackson, believes that despite being unsuccessful in their attempts to sign either man, the Red Devils are still keen on bringing them both to Old Trafford.

“I think Manchester United will go back for Herrera and Baines in January,” Jackson said.

“I’m not saying that they’ll definitely sign but they are two players that they are still interested in.

“I know they have bought Marouane Fellaini but he’s a different sort of player to Herrera. They are also very interested in bringing in another left-back and Baines is top of the shopping list.”

Herrera was thought to be close to signing for United on transfer deadline day, only for the deal to fall through amidst talk of imposters posing as Manchester United representatives.

Repeated attempts by David Moyes to bring in Leighton Baines however were flatly rejected, with Roberto Martinez adamant that Everton could not lose both Fellaini and Baines in the same window.

The Toffees are thought to be set to reward the England international with a new contract for his loyalty, but Baines will be skeptical about penning a new long-term deal should a potential move to United still be on the cards.

It is likely that Moyes will renew his interest in a number of targets at the first available opportunity, having received criticism alongside Ed Woodward for a lack of productive action.
