Agbonlahor says sorry for One Direction wipeout

Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has apologised to One Direction's Louis Tomlinson after injuring the teen heart-throb in a charity match.

The pacey frontman sent Tomlinson tumbling after a heavy tackle on the boyband star during Stiliyan Petrov's charity match at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Video footage of the incident soon went viral, with Directioners taking to Twitter to defend Tomlinson - while fans also hit out at Agbonlahor for the part he played in injuring the teen sensation.

Despite the clash, Agbonlahor was full of praise for Tomlinson and was delighted to see the One Direction star raising cash and the profile of Petrov's foundation, set up after the former Villa star was forced to retire following an ongoing battle with leukaemia.

"It was just one of those things. I'll apologise to Louis when we meet up with everybody else after the game," Agbonlahor said of the challenge.

"I know he enjoyed playing in the game and it's fantastic that he took time out to be here, and the same with everybody who played.

"It was a fabulous day for Stiliyan Petrov and for Celtic and their respective charities.

"It's great to see all the people who came here to play in the game and all the fans who turned up to support such a worthy cause.

"I know Stiliyan is really grateful and appreciative and that's what today's all about."

An all-star Petrov XI beat Celtic XI 5-3, with Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov scoring a hat-trick in front of a sell-out crowd.
