Davide Petrucci believes his loan move to Royal Antwerp can help him force his way into David Moyes' squad.
The Italian midfielder joins a long line of United youngsters to spend time in Belgium in search of first-team action.
While some have failed to benefit from their time on the continent, others, such as Jonny Evans, John O'Shea and Darron Gibson have thrived upon their return to Old Trafford.
Speaking to the club's official website, Petrucci revealed current first-team regular Evans helped convince him the move was right, he said, "I spoke to Jonny and he told me good things about Antwerp from when he was here."
A regular for the clubs successful reserve team in recent years, 21-year-old Petrucci feels the time was right for a spell away from Manchester.
"I am at the age where I need to play. Reserves football is fantastic when you are young but for us, me especially, I played there for a few years and won everything every year. I needed that step up," he told manutd.com.
David Moyes embarked on a public mission to bring in central midfield reinforcements, which concluded with the deadline day signing of Marouane Fellaini.
Petrucci accepts that first-team affairs are the priority for Moyes following his summer arrival, but hopes he can force his way into the frame.
"I think it's not easy for David Moyes because he's just arrived and needs to have more focus on the first team. It's understandable but I need to think about myself and try to play as well as I can. Hopefully, he will see that and I will come back.
"You need to believe all the time - otherwise there is no point to play football, you know. If you don't believe in yourself, it is better not to play. I hope I can come back to United and play for the first team," explained Petrucci.
Royal Antwerp manager, and former Chelsea hero, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, will be looking for Petrucci to make a bigger impact than he did in his last loan spell, when injury cut short his time at Peterborough after just four appearances.
