Robin Van Persie bags August goal of the month award

Robin van Persie's superb first goal against Swansea has been named Manchester United's goal of the month for August.

The Dutchman got his 2013/14 campaign up and running with a bang at the Liberty Stadium, setting his side on their way to an emphatic 4-1 win on the opening day of the season.

Van Persie's acrobatic effort accumulated 33% of the fans vote on Manchester United's official website - just 1% more than his second effort against Swansea, a thunderous effort from 20 yards.

Yet another goal from the game at the Liberty Stadium completes the top three- Danny Welbeck's sumptuous chip polled 30% of the votes on

Davide Petrucci and Jesse Lingard earned nominations for their goals with the U21's, and Sean Goss, Ruairi Croskery and James Wilson for the Under-18s.
