Football News

The 2013/14 Premier League season is only three games old, and injuries are already starting to pile up, with numerous clubs up and down the country currently bereft of a number of their regular first-team stars.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is perhaps one of the highest profile casualties of the new campaign, after a freak training ground accident left the 27-year-old with a severe gash to his head, that will rule him out of Old Trafford action for around three weeks.

Rooney was forced to pull out of the England squad for their latest World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine, joining a growing list of Three Lions absentees which also included Liverpool's in-form frontman Daniel Sturridge.

During the international break, it's increasingly common for called-up players to withdraw from action with slight knocks or dubious niggles, while participating stars often report back to their club with fresh injury concerns, sustained while representing their country.
