LeBron James has ‘no idea’ about his basketball future, and is focused on the current season rather than a possible move away from the Miami Heat in the summer of 2014.

The NBA superstar is set to become the must-have free agent for the second time in his career, having left the Cleveland Cavaliers for his current home in Florida back in July 2010.

Whilst the 28-year-old forward was thinking about life away from Ohio as much as 18 months in advance of his ‘decision’, things are a little different with the Heat.

James has subsequently won two NBA Championships in Miami, and the Heat will start the new campaign as favourites to make it a treble. It begs the question as to why the number one draft pick back in 2003 would want to leave?

But, as the player himself points out, funnier things have happened in the world of basketball.

"I have absolutely no idea," James told ESPN when asked what his future may hold in 2014.

"I would love to spend the rest of my career in Miami with this great team and great organisation as we continue to compete for championships. That's ideal. But we don't know what may happen from now to the end of the season.

“That's the nature of the business. It's the nature of not knowing what tomorrow brings.”

And, James went on to reference the Chicago Bulls dream team as an example of a group of players who nobody expected to move, but found themselves playing apart outside of the windy city.

"I mean, as a kid, I never thought the Bulls would break up. Never. If you'd told me as a kid that [Michael] Jordan and [Scottie] Pippen wouldn't play together for the rest of their lives, I'd have looked at you crazy. And Phil Jackson wouldn't be the coach? I'd have looked at you crazy,” he added.

“But sometimes the nature of the business doesn't allow things to happen like you would want them to. But we'll see."

The remark is particularly poignant when you consider that both Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh could also leave Miami during free agency at the end of the current season.

But, the former St. Vincent-St. Mary High School star has assured fans that he is fully focused on the task at-hand at the American Airlines Arena, with another title all that’s on the mind.

"I owe it to myself, I owe it my teammates and I owe it to the Miami Heat to stay focused," he concluded.

"As a leader, I'm not even going to let that side of the business get me unfocused on what I'm trying to do and that's trying to win another championship.
