Italy international Manuel Pasqual suffered a horrific cut to the head after being elbowed during his country's 2-1 win against the Czech Republic last night.

The defender sustained a deep cut on his forehead while going up for a challenge with Aston Villa Libor Kozak.

The Fiorentina man needed seven stitches to close up the wound, and his club confirmed he was sent to hospital afterwards.

"The Viola skipper never lost consciousness but remained in hospital overnight for further tests as a precautionary measure," read a statement.

Despite the x-rated injury the Azzurri went on to claim a 2-1 win against their Group B rivals thanks to a goal from Gorgio Chiellini and a Mario Balotelli penalty to earn their spot at the 2014 World Cup.
