The new season of Indian Cricket is about to begin and the Indian veterans have been given an opportunity to impress the selectors.
Indian veteran players Virender Sehawag (34), Gautam Gambhir (31) , Zaheer Khan (34) and Yuvraj Singh (31) have been called up for the upcoming games for India A which will take place later this month.
Zaheer and Gambhir have been out of the side since last year, while Sehwag did play a match in March. Mohammad Kaif, who last played a game for India in 2006, has also been called up for the games against West Indies A.
This could be an opportunity for the part of the World Cup Winning team members to make a comeback into the team, which looks a little tough since the brilliant performance of the youth brigade in the Champions Trophy which took place in England this June-July.
Interestingly, these games clash with the upcoming Champions League T20, which could have played a part in some or all of these selections. This might create some headache for the franchise.
Yuvraj Singh will lead India A in the One Day format while Irfan Pathan will lead the India Blue team in the challenger trophy.
Meanwhile, the other players who have been included in the India A's 50 over game are the Pathan Brothers, Praveen Kumar and Robin Uthappa.
India A squad for the second and third four-day games: Cheteshwar Pujara (capt), Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Sheldon Jackson, Abhishek Nayar, Paras Dogra, Uday Kaul (wk), Parvez Rasool, Bhargav Bhatt, Dhawal Kulkarni, Zaheer Khan, Ishwar Pandey, Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Kaif
