Liverpool's official American Twitter have deleted a September 11th graphic tribute showing to Liverbirds emerging from the smoking Twin Towers.

The writing under the image read "You'll never walk alone America"

The graphic was retweeted by the clubs official account, @LFC but the image was removed at some point overnight.

After the image was posted a barrage of angry messages followed criticising Liverpool for distorting the image of the Twin Towers and the message of 9/11 for club promotion and self gain.

One such message on Twitter read: 'How embarrassing. The ONLY way they could have made that worse was a Liverpool jersey with 'SEPTEMBER 11' on the back…'

This is the second time Liverpool have had to delete a controversial Tweet in a matter of weeks.

The club from Merseyside have recently been in the news for a Tweet from the clubs Official Twitter @LFC page that seemed to mock the tragic Munich air disaster.

Liverpool have since released a statement to the Manchester Evening News apologising for the distasteful Munich Tweet.

This latest insensitive from the Reds is a error of judgement on behalf of the media team and proves how careful clubs have to be whilst using social networking sites.
