Shinji Kagawa did not criticise David Moyes while he was away on international duty for not selecting him for Manchester United.

The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Red Devils this term, and has only played seven minutes under Moyes, in the Community Shield against Wigan

After scoring in Japan's 3-1 win over Ghana on Tuesday Kagawa has been quoted as saying: "Please ask David Moyes why I'm not in the side," Kagawa, left out of the United squad beaten by Liverpool before the international break, told the AFP news agency.

"It is frustrating not playing but to score a goal like that gives me confidence. Hopefully I can take that back to my club with me and things will improve.

"It's hard not playing regularly. Some days the frustration is worse than others; it comes in waves.

"So it's nice to come back to Japan and get to play, and to score felt good.

"I just have to keep working hard and keep pushing for my chance. When I get back it will be a challenge to get into the team.

"When I get back to my club I have to wait for my chance in the Champions League and the Premier League. I'm sure my chance will come."

His quotes were perceived as a dig aimed at Moyes, however Japanese-based English journalist Ban Mabley says his comments have been mis-interpreted.

He tweeted: "Please ask Moyes" is almost certainly a 100% accurate, literal translation of Kagawa's answer. So no criticism of whomever relayed it. But the nuances interpreted from the English are simply not there in the Japanese. The 'please' isn't a plead to ask on Kagawa's behalf.

"It just simply makes his point/sentence/answer more polite. Kagawa's point was, simply, if you would like Moyes's opinion, you would have to ask him as I am not able to speak for him.

Kagawa will be hoping for his first taste of Premier League action under Moyes when Manchester United take on Crystal Palace this weekend.
