Tottenham Hotspur trialist Morne Nel was given his chance to impress in yesterday’s clash against Ipswich Town.

The South African starlet is one of four SuperSport United players enjoying a short-term stint at White Hart Lane as part of the partnership between the two clubs.

And, the youngster must have impressed on the training ground, as he was the only one to play any part for the Spurs XI against the Championship side.

Nel only signed for SuperSport in the summer, moving to the Premiership outfit from Old Mutual Football Club. And, he was instantly rewarded with a trip to the English capital alongside Denwin Farmer, Zama Rambuwane and Kabelo Seriba.

17-year-old Nel’s profile had already risen this summer after an impressive pre-season display against Manchester City, and he was given 50 minutes against the Tractor Boys to show what he could do at the Tottenham Hotspur training ground.

A 13th minute substitute, he came off after 62 minutes, with replacement Kenny McEvoy grabbing the last-minute winner for Spurs.

Whether Nel has done enough to potentially earn a longer spell in north London, only time will tell, but his stint with the club shows that Andre Villas-Boas is thinking about the future, and that the partnership with SuperSport could potentially be beneficial in the long term.
