Former Manchester United starlet Paul Pogba has claimed that his love for Juventus was what persuaded him to join the Serie A outfit and that Sir Alex Ferguson tried to stop him from leaving Old Trafford.

20-year-old midfielder Pogba was highly-rated by staff and supporters at United, but departed the club in June 2012 after failing to agree a new contract. He subsequently joined the Serie A giants in August of that year, signing a four-year deal at the Juventus Stadium.

He quickly endeared himself to fans in Turin, wowing supporters and pundits alike with a succession of impressive performances that helped Juve to claim another title ahead of rivals Napoli.

And following such an impressive debut campaign in his new surroundings, Pogba has revealed that his sheer affection for the club was the key factor behind him taking the decision to join.

In an interview with Sky Sports Italia that was reported by the Daily Express, Pogba said: "Juventus? I've liked them ever since I was a kid, always supported them.

"This club means so much to the French. The best French players have played here and that is why I liked it."

Pogba, who has won three caps for his native France, also revealed that iconic United boss Sir Alex Ferguson attempted to persuade him to stay with the Red Devils.

"Ferguson tried to stop me leaving Manchester United but was unsuccessful," he added.

Juve, who won their first silverware of the season with a 4-0 demolition of Lazio in the Italian Super Cup, have enjoyed a fine start to the 2013/14 Serie A campaign.

A hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Sampdoria was followed up with another mauling of Vladimir Petkovic's Lazio at the Juventus Stadium.

They return to domestic action this weekend with a trip to face Walter Mazzarri's Inter Milan at the San Siro.
