Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil may have to wait to make his Gunners' debut after being struck down by illness.
However, the Germany international, who completed his £42.4m transfer from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, has travelled to Sunderland with the rest of the Arsenal squad, according to BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein.
Ozil missed training on Friday, as did his compatriot Per Mertesacker, who was too unwell to make the trip to the north east and will subsequently miss Saturday's Premier League encounter at the Stadium of Light.
Arsenal fans had been hoping to catch a first glimpse of their new star signing this weekend – but manager Arsene Wenger is unlikely to risk the former Real Madrid star if he's not 100 per cent fit.
The Gunners currently sit fourth in the Premier League table after picking up two wins from their opponent three matches, and will be strongly fancied to beat a Sunderland side who are still looking for their first victory of the new campaign.
