Premier League: Foreign XI (1)

Football News

Following new FA chairman Greg Dyke's passionate call to arms last week, the subject of foreign footballers in the Premier League has once again been thrusted into the limelight.

With the English top flight having significantly risen in prominence since its inception in 1992, an overwhelming percentage of players that currently feature regularly for the majority of Premier League teams are not English. As the division's popularity has increasingly escalated, clubs have appeared to favour imports over homegrown talent - with the latter often being comparatively overpriced in the frankly ludicrous modern transfer market.

But while there certainly might be a degree of validity to claims that the sheer number of foreign players being brought to the Premier League is potentially stunting the development of English youngsters with a subsequently detrimental impact on the national team, it should not be forgotten the beneficial impact that such imports have had.

Here, GMS selects an XI entirely consisting of the greatest players not to come from these shores that have flourished in the Premier League. Feel free to comment on the selections and leave your own choices below...
