Arsenal striker targets golden boot

Olivier Giroud believes he has a chance to win the Premier League golden boot this season after a flying start to the current campaign.

Arsenal fans were left fearing the worst after the transfer window slammed shut with just Yaya Sanogo added to the striker roster at the Emirates.

That left Arsene Wenger with just Giroud as the only proven striker in the squad, but he has since proved more than worthy as a first team striker.

Giroud has scored in all four of Arsenal's Premier League games so far, making him joint top scorer alongside Aston VIlla's Christian Benteke.

Robin van Persie has monopolised the award having won it the last two years and, with three goals this campaign, is looking a strong candidate to win a third in a row.

However, Giroud believes his start to the season has given him a chance to claim the award ahead of the Manchester United man.

The Frenchman told Sky Sports: "I must have a chance.

"I feel good and, with these players giving me chances, it has to be a possibility.

"That is something I aimed to achieve when I joined Arsenal. Now that we have Mesut Ozil, it can get even better."

Van Persie remains favourite with the bookies to claim his hat-trick of golden boots at 9/4. However, Giroud is a firm second favourite with some bookies offering as little as 8/1 for the Frenchman.
