McLaren driver Sergio Perez has tipped Australian Daniel Ricciardo to "thrive" under the high pressure placed upon him racing for Red Bull next season.
The young Mexican, who himself has had to adjust to life at a major team after joining McLaren from Sauber for 2013, believes the move for Ricciardo will only bring the best out of the 24-year old.
"I think it is important that he comes with the right attitude for his team," Perez told reporters. "I know Daniel very well, he is a good friend of mine, and I think he has the right attitude to cope with it.
"I think he will do very well and I expect him to be fighting straight away.
"It will take him a couple of races but, if Red Bull has a good consistent car, he will be with Sebastian straight away. It will be very good for him."
If Perez was to give Ricciardo any advice ahead of his big move, then the 23-year old has said to expect a huge change in expectations as soon as he steps inside the RB10 next season.
"The pressure raises a lot, and there is a lot of pressure in a team like McLaren and Red Bull," added Perez.
"For sure there is more pressure than he has at the moment at Toro Rosso, or what I had at Sauber.
"But I think as a racing driver you have to focus and deliver to 100 per cent. That is the way to handle it.
"If you cannot handle pressure when you come into a big team you will not succeed and you will last only a couple of years before someone else comes.
"So I think it is important to prepare yourself and do nothing apart from give your best."
Interesting words from a driver who has been a controversial figure in his first season at McLaren. The Mexican has had a mix of good and bad this season producing some good results but also earning the wrath of fellow drivers for his aggressive driving style.
