Brighton want Tottenham striker on loan

Brighton & Hove Albion will step up their chase to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Jonathan Obika on loan, according to local Sussex newspaper The Argus.

The 22-year-old is currently sidelined after suffering a recurrence of the ankle injury that has plagued the promising youngster for the past 12 months.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is willing to let Obika leave White Hart Lane on loan once he has recovered from his latest setback, and sees the Championship club as the perfect place for him to continue his development.

Brighton are on the lookout for a new striker to replace talisman Leonardo Ulloa, following his red card against Reading on Sunday which has ruled him out of action for the next three matches.

With Ashley Barnes the only option currently available to head coach Oscar Garcia, the Spaniard will be hoping that the Tottenham star is not too far away from a return to fitness.

Obika has enjoyed numerous stints away from north London, taking in loan spells with Yeovil Town, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough, Swindon and Charlton Athletic in the past.
