Tottenham star Christian Eriksen has revealed the reasons behind his decision to join Spurs over Liverpool, according to the Daily Star.

Liverpool were heavily linked with the Danish international over the summer, but he eventually joined Tottenham in a £11.5m switch from Dutch giants Ajax.

And Eriksen admitted it was the personal efforts of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that helped persuade him to opt for Tottenham over rival suitors.

"I talked a little bit with the manager but I had more to do with the chairman and the director Baldini," said Eriksen.

"They were the guys who really had the right words. The first contact was with my agent and then my agent talked to me and I said, 'Go on, I really want to hear what they have got to say.'

"The day after my agent was [in London] to look around and see everything and talk with the big men, then the day after, they all went to Amsterdam to negotiate with Ajax.

"The next day, I was here for a medical. It went really quick. Just four days. It really impressed me that they wanted it so badly and wanted to do it so quickly."

Eriksen signed for Tottenham on the weekend before the transfer deadline, and the Denmark international impressed on his debut at White Hart Lane against Norwich City.

The Spurs playmaker had a hand in both goals as Tottenham eased to a comfortable home victory.

Liverpool were busy themselves on deadline day, securing the double capture of Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori. Sakho, a French international centre-back signed from Paris St-Germain, made his Liverpool debut in the 2-2 draw against Swansea on Monday evening.
