Arsène Wenger's transfer policies were once again in the spotlight this summer as Arsenal struggled to sign players. Then Mesut Ozil signed from Real Madrid, smashing the previous Arsenal transfer fee record. But who is he?

Apparently many players at Real Madrid were shocked that Ozil was allowed to leave such is the high regard that many players had for him. With Cristiano Ronaldo essentially having a greater than 1:1 appearance to scoring ratio it is easy to understand why player wanted him to stay.

Only time will tell if Wenger has signed Arsenal's saviour but those in the know believe Ozil could have a dramatic effect on a team that has struggled to win silverware in recent years.

The German's time at Real Madrid wasn't littered with trophies, though he did help win La Liga in the 2011/12 season. Arsenal fans will be hoping winning is in his blood.

Ozil's début game at Arsenal came against Sunderland where he got an assist in setting up Giroud's goal helping Arsenal to a 3-1 victory, Fantasy Football players take note...

With Arsenal playing Marseille in the Champions League they'll be looking at Ozil to help them progress through the competition and past the last 16 this year. This may well prove a tall order as Arsenal sit in a "group of death" alongside Marseille, Dortmund and Napoli.
