There's generally a range of reactions that can follow the issuing of a red card.

Some players react violently, some are more timid, some can throw tantrums whilst others simply accept their fate and leave the field of play.

It's a very unusual occurrence however for a player to faint when dismissed from the action for breaking the rules.

That's exactly what happened during FC Groningen's fixture with Heerenveen however, when 20-year-old Timo Letschert collapsed after being shown red for a crunching tackle.

Letschert had rushed into a tackle, and took his man out with a clattering slide that gave the referee no option but to delve into his pocket. The Dutch defender grabbed his head where it had collided with his opponents knee and looked genuinely shocked with the decision.

He then stood up and began to walk around in protest before collapsing to the ground, prompting medical staff to carry him off on a stretcher.
