Bayern Munich begin their defence of the Champions League title on Tuesday night as they host CSKA Moscow and, in theory, the Bavarians are a stronger proposition than they were a year ago.

Last season's treble winners are now under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola - himself a two-time Champions League victor as a manager - while they have also bolsters significantly with the acquisitions of Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara.

This apparent strengthening reinforces Bayern as the favourites with bookmakers to defend their crown, while other European superpowers have seen the odds lengthened given their respective upheavals.

Manchester United are the most notable in this bracket, with the lack of Champions League experience possessed by David Moyes leaving many doubtful the European Cup will make its way to Old Trafford.
