It's been eight seasons since Arsenal last won a trophy. Not since their 2005 FA cup triumph over rivals Manchester United have they tasted success. However Arsene Wenger and the squad are confident they can this year.
This is not to say they will win a trophy but they are capable of strongly challenging for one. Here are three reasons why:
1. Manager Stability
Arsenal have the longest reigning manager in England, so Arsene Wenger is sure to know the ins and outs of his job by now. With all of the other English teams in last season's top four getting new managers, Arsenal may be able to exploit the time it takes for the managers to adjust to their new surroundings by making a strong push for the Premier League.
Throughout the previous few seasons Arsenal fans have been calling for Wenger's sacking/retirement but the board have however shown faith in Wenger and he has repaid them with Champions League football for the 14th successive season. He knows he has the board's backing and he will use this confidence to try and win a trophy.
2. Marque signing
Arsenal have finally made the marque signing fans have been waiting so long for - Mesut Ozil.
The 24-year-old Germany international is undoubtedly a good player but it is not just his actions on the pitch that can bring success to the club - simply signing a player of this calibre will significantly improve the atmosphere in the dressing room.
The players will believe in themselves knowing they are world class and this latest addition will only enhance that notion. It will also make the fans happy, and when the fans are happy they will get behind their team and give the players even greater determination and confidence than they had before.
3. No key players have left
In previous seasons Arsenal's key players have left the club, with the likes of Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie all leaving the club. This has made the club unstable has self doubt begins to creep in and neither the players nor the fans believe they have done enough to replace them.
However this season Arsenal have not sold a single one of their best players, e.g. Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud etc. all staying at the club and this means that the players are used to playing with each other and will understand the others' movement. This will lead to good link up play and overall a good squad understand and chemistry, both on and off the pitch.
