Tennis star Roger Federer was delighted after Swiss champions FC Basel recorded a shock victory against Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
The Blues took the lead on the stroke of half-time through impressive Brazilian playmaker Oscar, but the visitors refused to lose heart and shocked Stamford Bridge into silence after second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Marco Steller ensured that Basel departed West London with all three points in Group E.
32-year-old Federer, who is widely considered to be the greatest player ever to have graced a court, is an ardent Basel fan and has been spotted on several occasions giving his backing to the team at their St. Jakob Park home.
Clearly delighted after their stunning win over Jose Mourinho's Premier League title hopefuls, Federer tweeted: "Fantastic evening for Basel supporters, wow! I am so happy, thanks @FC_Basel."
Chelsea, who will have to improve markedly during upcoming European clashes against Steaua Bucharest and Bundesliga outfit Schalke, return to domestic action at home to local rivals Fulham on Saturday.
