Arsenal are interested in adding further to their German contingent and have their eye on another talented youngster coming through the ranks.

According to the Sunday People, Arsene Wenger sent scouts to watch Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Maximilian Wagener in their loss to Manchester United in a European Under-19 match in midweek.

The 18-year-old scored a goal to put Leverkusen up 3-2 but eventually lost the match 4-3 and his performance would have encouraged the Arsenal talent spotters in attendance.

Manager Arsene Wenger is amassing a large contingent of German talent at Emirates Stadium, with the sensational record £42.4million swoop for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Özil on transfer deadline day.

Were the Gunners to sign Wagener, Özil would not be his only countryman at the north London club, as Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker are important first team squad members, while youngsters Serge Gnabry and Thomas Eisfeld are impressing for the Under-21s.
