Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard wants the Premier League champions to allow him to stay on loan at Birmingham until the end of the season, according to

The 20-year-old made a magnificent debut at the weekend, scoring all four goals as Birmingham thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 4-1, and hopes that his parent club will extend his loan at St. Andrew's.

The youngster admitted to being nervous before making his Championship debut, but is more than happy at how his loan has gone thus far, and envisages a good period of development if United do agree to allow him to see out the season at Birmingham.

"I had a lot of pressure on my shoulders but, as soon as the first goal went in, I got more confident," he said.

"You can't beat first-team football so, hopefully, United will let me stay for the season."

Lingard greatly impressed during United's pre-season tour in the summer, and is viewed at Old Trafford as a player of much promise for the future.

He has made appearances for the England U17 and U21 sides, but has yet to play for the Manchester United senior squad in a competitive fixture.
