The Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams met for a showdown in Dallas on Sunday. Both teams were even at 1 win and 1 loss apiece heading into the game. Both teams need a win as they look to compete in their respective divisions.
The game started off with immediate excitement as Cowboys returner, Dwayne Harris muffed a punt from the Rams Johnny Hekker. The Rams recovered the muffed punt and had ideal field position. Unfortunately for St. Louis, the drive failed to result in a score.
The Cowboys offence, under the command of Tony Romo proceeded to take the ball 61 yards on 8 plays. The drive concluded with a touchdown reception by wide receiver, Dez Bryant. The Cowboys took the early lead 7-0.
A few minutes later, the Cowboys settled for a field goal after not being able to score from the Rams 1 yard line. The score at the end of the first quarter was 10-0 in favor of Dallas.
The only excitement that took place in the second quarter was a 10 play- 67 yard drive that resulted in a DeMarco Murray touchdown. The Cowboys would head into the locker-room at halftime ahead 17-0.
The Cowboys never stopped applying the pressure as they went up 24-0 after a drive of 80 yards capped off by a 24 yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Gavin Escobar.
Finally, the Rams showed a sign of life late in the third quarter. The Rams offence strung together a 13 play, 75 yard drive that put them on the scoreboard with a 4 yard touchdown catch by Austin Pettis. The score at the end of the third quarter was 24-7 in favor of the Cowboys.
The Cowboys put one last scoring drive together early in the fourth quarter that gave them the 31-7 victory. Dwayne Harris caught a 24 yard pass from Tony Romo in the end-zone for the final score.
Tony Romo led the Cowboys with 3 touchdown passes for a total of 210 yards. DeMarco Murray also had a big day rushing as he carried the ball 26 times for 175 yards and a touchdown.
The Rams had their opportunities, but poor decision making and penalties resulted in the team's lack of capitalizing. One big mistake that hurt the Rams was a holding penalty that resulted in nullifying a Tavon Austin 84 yard punt return touchdown.
