Aaron Ramsey is more important than Wilshere

Arsenal boast one of the best attacking midfield players in European football - and no, I'm not talking about £42.4 million-man, Mesut Ozil.

Step forward, Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh midfielder has established himself as a key first-team player at the Emirates this season, surpassing the likes of Ozil and more significantly Jack Wilshere, becoming the first name on the teamsheet.

Based on his early season form, Ramsey has made himself 'undroppable', so to speak.

His stunning start to the season has given boss Arsene Wenger a welcome selection dilemma with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla, Ozil and Wilshere all vying for a starting berth.

But it's Ramsey who has jumped to the front of the queue and is, most significantly, ahead of Wilshere in the midfield pecking order.

Seven goals in eight games tells you everything you need to know, with Ramsey finally fulfilling the potential that prompted Wenger into bringing the ex-Cardiff City starlet to north London in the first place.

The 22-year-old has well and truly banished the memories of the horror injury he sustained against Stoke in February 2010, and is right back at the top of his game.

It seemed fitting that Ramsey scored in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Mark Hughes' men at the Emirates on Sunday, with his goal bringing an end to the injury-plagued chapter in his career and turning to a new, fresh page - one that promises so much.

Who knows, Ramsey could even have a fairytale finish too by lifting the Premier League title with Arsenal this season…

And it's Ramsey's displays that have taken some of the burden off of Arsenal's no.10, Wilshere.

The England international has struggled to reach his best form this season and risks being overlooked in favour of Ramsey on current form.

As the Daily Mirror's John Cross rightly points out: "It’s interesting that last season when players needed to be moved around it was he (Ramsey) who was moved out to the left. But at Sunderland... it was Jack Wilshere who was shifted.

"Ramsey has moved right to the very top of the list – it’s Ramsey, Ozil and one other [in Arsenal’s midfield]. He’s playing out of his skin."

Wenger has reassured the Gunners' fans that Wilshere will get back to his best in due course, but for now, they're not even missing the man who they have, in recent years, become all too reliant on. For that, credit must go to Ramsey.

Move over Wilshere, Ramsey's time is now.
