Monaco are set to step up their interest in Manchester City and Chelsea target Eliaquim Mangala, according to talkSPORT.

The 22-year-old defender, who currently represents Portuguese champions FC Porto, was in high demand during the summer transfer window, with Manchester City believed to be interested in securing his signature along with Premier League rivals Chelsea and La Liga giants Barcelona.

However, despite the number of teams supposedly vying to secure the French international's services, the window closed with Mangala still at Estádio do Dragão.

Although, despite the former Standard Liege star remaining a key member of the first-team setup in the Primeira Liga under Paulo Fonseca, rumours have continued to circulate over Mangala's future.

According to talkSPORT, wealthy Ligue 1 leaders Monaco are the latest club to ponder a bid for the talented defender and could be set to make their move when the window re-opens once more during January.
