Arsenal and Liverpool are set to challenge Italian giants Juventus for the signing of Austrian Under-21 youngster Martin Hinteregger, according to talkSPORT.

The 21-year-old who broke into the first-team at Red Bull Salzburg in October 2010 has been capped four times by the Austrain U-21 side.

Premier League club's Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly been long-term admirers of the starlet, but with Italian champions Juventus also in the running for the versatile defender, both clubs may look to step up their interest in the player.

The Gunners will be looking to add competition to their back-line, with Arsene Wenger eyeing cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny at the heart of Arsenal's defence.

And, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will also hope to add further competition to his ever improving back-line after signing defenders Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho in the past transfer window. It will be interesting to see just where Hinteregger ends up.
