The NFL's senior vice president of international development Chris Parson's has given hopes to British NFL fans of a Super Bowl being played under the arch at Wembley.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Parsons said that a London Super Bowl is being discussed as a possibility:

"They are a very progressive organization so long, long, long term they might consider (a Super Bowl in London), but it's a hell of a call.

"If they bring it anywhere in the world we want it here at Wembley."

The NFL have been keen to develop their fan base in the UK, with nearly two million NFL fans already watching games:

"We've doubled our fan base in the last 3 1-2 to four years," Parsons said.

"I'd like to see that at least double again in the next three or four years. That would put us among the top five sports in the U.K. in terms of core fan base."

Creating a London-based NFL franchise was also on the agenda:

"There are several steps we need to continue to take before we get to that deeper conversation," Parsons said.

"We'd like to play more games every year as we move forward. ... Once you've got a sizeable fan base, the options are then much more available to you to do certain things."

For an English NFL franchise to succeed, the facilities would need to be ready to cope with demands similar to Premier League football. Wembley managing director Roger Maslin says Sunday games at Wembley would be manageable alongside the stadium's existing commitments to the England national soccer team:

"I am absolutely confident if [NFL Commissioner] Roger Goodell wanted to have a franchise here we could absolutely deliver on it."

London plays host to a regular-season NFL game on Sunday, with the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars will also face off on 27th October.
