Wayne Rooney was a satisfied man after leading Manchester United to victory against Liverpool - and into the next round of the Capital One Cup - on Wednesday evening.
Javier Hernandez scored the only game of the encounter, during which Luis Suarez made his return for Liverpool, to ensure the Premier League champions staged a recovery of sorts after the weekend humbling to Manchester City.
Rooney had outlined before the encounter at the Etihad Stadium that he still ranks the derby with Liverpool far greater than that with City, and was delighted to be able to captain Manchester United to their triumph against the Anfield club.
The striker posted on his official Facebook page: "Woke up happy this morning after a great result last night!
"We had to bounce back and that's what we did, it's always a nice feeling to beat Liverpool."
Following their success against Liverpool, Manchester United will now face a home tie with Norwich City in the next round of the competition.
The meeting will take place in the week commencing October 28, and the winner will be awarded a place in the draw for the quarter-final.
