Manchester City defender Micah Richards has admitted he doesn't believe he is in Roy Hodgson's current England plans but is looking to change this.
The 25-year-old has 13 England caps to his name but was used only once during Fabio Capello's four-year reign and is yet to be called-up by Hodgson.
"I've been stuck on 13 caps for some time now - unlucky for some!" Richards said whilst speaking to The Sun.
"I'm not sure what the answer is. I just need to get fit and play regularly.
"It's all about opinions but I hope Roy Hodgson will give me a chance.
"I want to go to Brazil in 2014 as much as the next man and as I can play right-back and centre-half, I can give the manager some options. But I can't help thinking that unless there are injuries, it won't happen.
"Picking up niggling injuries isn't helping so I need to keep fit, do my best and see what happens."
Richards made only eight first-team appearances last season due to several injuries but made his comeback for the club by playing 90 minutes in 5-0 Capital One cup with over Wigan on Tuesday.
City have a wealth of players all vying for a spot in the Eastlands' defence with Richards facing competition from the likes of Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic, Martin Demichelis and fellow World Cup hopeful Joleon Lescott.
Richards will have to force his way into the City starting line-up to be in with a chance of boarding the plane to Brazil.
Tottenham's Kyle Walker has become a permanent fixture for England at right-back of late with Manchester United's Chris Smalling and Cardiff's former Spurs man Steven Caulker also in contention.
