Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted he spoke to several other clubs before signing a new contract at Paris St Germain this month.

As reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the Swedish striker - who was a summer transfer target for Chelsea and Manchester City - considered his options prior to putting pen to paper on the one-year extension.

"It is true that this summer I talked to other clubs, but after talking with the PSG president I decided to stay," Ibrahimovic said.

"We reached an agreement and I'm happy here. I hope we can achieve something historic."

Speculation linked Ibrahimovic with Chelsea and Manchester City earlier this summer, with both Premier League clubs reportedly on the look-out for a marquee striker.

And the big-money arrival of Edinson Cavani to the French capital stoked rumours that Ibrahimovic could be unsettled with his role as the undisputed lead striker challenged.

But the former-Barcelona man ignored the Chelsea and City speculation to stay at the Parc des Princes, signing a new contract that keeps him at the club until the summer of 2016.

Chelsea and City did add to their striking options over the summer - Jose Mourinho bringing in Samuel Eto'o while City signed Steven Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo.
