Xabi Alonso: Top three Liverpool goals

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is once again being linked with a transfer back to Liverpool and, as speculation gathers pace, GMS thought it appropriate to reflect on some his finest goals for the Reds.

Reports claim Real Madrid are ready to do business with potential suitors of the Spain international having made a number of summer recruits in midfield, with Alonso possibly available for as little as £3 million.

Such a fee would appear to be a steal for Liverpool, or whoever else may capture his signature, given Alonso's consistently high standards during almost a decade at the top of European football.

Alonso was a firm favourite with Liverpool fans during his time at Anfield, and would be welcomed fervently were he to secure a transfer back to the club.

The 31-year-old was held in high regard for numerous factores while he was a Liverpool player, but his reputation for spectacular goals was as influential a reason as any to endear him to Kopites.

Halfway line goals against Luton and Newcastle are still fondly remembered at Liverpool, as is a sumptuous free-kick at Craven Cottage, all of which can be viewed in the video above. Enjoy.
