Chelsea boss admits Mata has proved him wrong

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will welcome back Juan Mata back to his starting XI after being impressed by the Spaniard.

Mata has been limited to appearances from the bench so far this season with Mourinho claiming that the Spanish playmaker didn't fit in to his tactical makeup.

Not using him had linked Mata with a move away from Stamford Bridge with a host of clubs ready to take him of Mourinho's hand.

But the Spanish international was brought on at half time in the tie against Tottenham at White Hart Lane and suitably impressed.

With Chelsea 1-0 down, his probing passes helped Chelsea find the equaliser with John Terry's header coming from a Mata free kick.

Mourinho has now conceded that he is ready to play Mata in his starting line-up after the Spaniard forced his way back in to his plans.

After the Tottenham game he told reporters: "Mata will play against Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League.

"He has shown himself in the last two matches."

It is still not known whether Mata will be played in his preferred No.10 role, championing Oscar in the process or whether he will play wide out on the left - something Mourinho has suggested in the past.
