Tottenham are in the process of scouting Athletic Bilbao star Ibai Gomez, according to talkSPORT.

Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly keen to add another striker to his side, and sees the 23-year-old as an ideal partner for compatriot Roberto Soldado, who signed for Tottenham during the summer.

Gomez is out of contract at Bilbao in June and has yet to agree a new deal, meaning his services could be acquired at a cut-price in January.

The Basque club are unlikely to want to part ways with him without a fight however as the forward has become an influential member of their squad over the last two seasons.

The former Sestao man featured prominently for Bilbao last campaign and has subsequently been the subject of interest from a number of European sides.

Spurs could well move for the Spanish striker in January given the fact that AVB has relegated Emmanuel Adebayor to the reserves and only seems content to field Jermain Defoe in cup fixtures.
