Manchester City are weighing up a £7million move for Liverpool target Kurt Zouma in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The 18-year-old defender is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Europe at the moment, and has already cemented his place in the St Etienne first-team.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was credited with an interest in bringing the France U21 international to Anfield during the summer, but Zouma reiterated his commitment to the Ligue 1 club, citing his desire to remain at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

"There was a lot of noise about a transfer for me," was the centre-back's response to transfer rumours in August. "I can only say one thing - I will be at St Etienne this season, for sure."

However, reported interest from Manchester City might prompt the talented teenager to reconsider his options, with the opportunity to move to the Etihad Stadium a prospect possibly too good to turn down.

Manuel Pellegrini is keen to add defensive reinforcements when the transfer window reopens in January, after having to contend with a number of injuries and lack of form in that area of the pitch this season.
