Arsenal enquiries made by Leeds manager

Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has told Leeds' official website that he has approached a number of players about joining the Yorkshire club on loan - including Arsenal's young star Serge Gnabry.

The young German has impressed in his first few senior appearances for Arsenal, and capped his display with a first senior goal against Swansea. The highly-rated youngster is one of Arsenal's few remaining options in the wing position because of injury to Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.

Gnabry is amongst several Arsenal youth players that McDermott confirmed he had approached regarding a loan move to Elland Road this season. He also confirms an approach for out-of-favour Norwich striker Luchiano Becchio, who was signed from Leeds at the beginning of last season:

“I made an enquiry to Chris Hughton regarding Luciano Becchio and he wasn't available. Will it change? Who knows? Things do.

“I made an enquiry for a couple of young players at Arsenal as well - Gnabry who scored their first goal on Saturday was one of them. I wouldn't think they will let him out now.

“It’s a tricky situation because Premier League clubs can’t just go out and loan anyone – they want better players too if they are strengthening - so they don’t want to be left short in their own squads.”

Leeds have lost their last four games in all competition, scoring just one goal. They lie 15th in the Championship, with fans calling for a proven forward player to solve their goalscoring problems.

A successful loan spell has worked well in the past for Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, and some first-team football may help Gnabry further his development once Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla return to full fitness.

Gnabry is set to start for Arsenal against Napoli on Tuesday, with the young German one of the only remaining wide options for the Gunners.
